Zirconia is a metal-free, tooth-coloured, high-strength ceramic. It is used to protect heavily worn, root-treated or heavily filled teeth, and for bridges.

Why our own lab?

Crowns are produced in the in-clinic laboratory from a digital scan. Our technician sees the patient when choosing the shade, and small adjustments can be made on the same day during the try-in.

Step by step

  1. Exam and x-ray

Root health of the teeth to be crowned is checked.

  2. Preparation

Teeth are shaped and temporaries fitted.

  3. Digital scan

An intraoral scanner records the impression.

  4. Try-in and bonding

Fit and colour are checked and the crowns bonded.

Questions about this treatment

What is the difference between zirconia and veneers?

A veneer covers only the front surface; a zirconia crown covers the whole tooth. Which one is needed depends on the tooth.

Do zirconia crowns darken?

Zirconia does not change colour; as long as the gums stay healthy, no darkening is expected at the crown margin.
