A dental implant is a small titanium screw placed in the jawbone to replace a lost tooth root. Once it has fused with the bone, a porcelain or zirconia tooth is made on top. A single tooth, a bridge or a full arch can be restored without touching the neighbouring teeth.

Who is it for?

Any adult with enough bone volume and general health suitable for surgery can be assessed for implants. If bone is insufficient, grafting is planned beforehand or in the same session. Uncontrolled diabetes and heavy smoking slow healing; we discuss these openly at the consultation.

How is it planned?

The position, length and angle of the implant are set to the millimetre on a 3D CT scan. A surgical guide is prepared if needed. Surgery is usually done under local anaesthesia and takes 30-60 minutes for a single tooth.

Step by step

  1. Exam and CT scan

Bone volume and distance to the sinus/nerve are measured.

  2. Plan and consent

Number and position of implants, timeline and fee are shared in writing.

  3. Surgery

The implant is placed under local anaesthesia; stitches come out after 7–10 days.

  4. Integration

A temporary tooth can be worn for 2–4 months.

  5. Permanent tooth

Impressions are taken and a porcelain or zirconia crown is fitted.

  6. Check-ups

Check-up and professional cleaning twice a year.

Questions about this treatment

Does implant surgery hurt?

It is done under local anaesthesia, with the aim that you feel nothing during the procedure. Mild swelling and tenderness can follow for a few days and are managed with the recommended painkiller.

How long do implants last?

Lifespan depends on oral hygiene, smoking and regular check-ups. Well-maintained implants are known to serve for many years.

Can I get a tooth on the same day?

If bone quality allows, a temporary tooth can be fitted on the same day in some cases. The decision is made from the CT scan.
